I Just Texted to Say I Love You

I'll admit, when Elliot Yamin was on American Idol I was a fan. The dude has some pipes. And, as you all know, I'm a fan of social media so you KNOW I had to share this video.

Maria Aragon, Lady Gaga and the Power of Social Media

We all know the story of Justin Beiber. He was a talented little kid who sang his heart out and was all over YouTube. One audition with Usher and millions of dollars later, the kid is a phenomenon.

Enter Maria Aragon, who seems to be headed towards Beiber fever.

Like Justin, Maria has a video on YouTube that showcases her talents. In this case, she's covering the Lady Gaga song, "Born this Way."

Somehow, Gaga found this video and tweeted it. As a result, the video has received a slew of views and in fact, Gaga welcomed Aragon to her live show where the tandem performed the song together.

That, my friends, is the power of social media.

Songs I Can't Get Out of My Head

Figured I share these with you since they have been in constant rotation on my commuting playlist for one reason or another. Classic indie/anthem rock stuff in this mix, but it works for me.

What would you add to this mix?

Note to Marquis Daniels: Please Stop the Crap Rap

Apparently Celtics Forward Marquis Daniels wants to be a rapper. After listening to the type of rap he's producing, I'm asking him to stop the presses. It's crap rap. That really bouncy, singing, made for MTV crap-rap.

Please stop. Stick with hoops. Trust me. Ask Allen Iverson.

iTunes Beatles Reaction: We Expect Wow from Apple all the Time

We expect so much more from Apple, don't we? When we see images like this:

...the hype machine goes into overdrive. However, when the story gets scooped, then the balloon is popped.

Regardless of the scoop that the Beatles are now on iTunes, we expect so much more from Apple. With each "event" there's a swell of hype and anticipation that gets bigger and bigger as the minutes tick away. Once the announcement is here, the proverbial, "that's it" statements come out.

So why do we expect so much from Apple? Who really knows, but the lesson learned today was that we, the Apple-crazed consumers, have created this anticipation beast. It's our own fault that we get psyched out from these over-hyped announcements.

Is the Beatles discography being available on iTunes cool? Sure. They were a great band that did some historic things. This IS big news, but it was never going to match up to the hype. None of Apple's news will ever match the hype.

Period.

Street Musician Rocking the iPad

You have to love how creative people can be. Take this street musician who's doing her thing via the iPad.

The first thing that comes to my mind is that how the heck can a street musician afford an iPad? It's not like you need to string a few bucks together to get one. You're looking at 500 bucks or so. Regardless, you have to give it up to this chick who seems to be doing something right has a few people drop some cashola into her case.

Now, just add a few more iPad players to the mix and you'll have the first ever, full fledged, street musician iPad band. Can you hear someone screaming, "FREEBIRD!!!" now?
